In the full-size SUV segment, the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban and Nissan Armada are major contenders. With their roomy, high-tech cabins and massive towing capabilities, these SUVs are nicely suited to fun-loving road trips. Which model, then, should you choose? Our Coleman Chevrolet comparison guide takes a look.
Max Seating Capacity: 2020 Chevrolet Suburban
The Chevy Suburban is one of the last remaining truck-based, full-size SUVs that still offers seating for up to nine passengers. With its front bench seat, the entry-level Suburban LS treats big families to nine seats. All other trim models offer accommodations for seven or eight, depending on whether you select optional second-row captain’s chairs.
The Armada is also a spacious, three-row SUV. However, it doesn’t offer a front-row bench seat on any trim model, which means that seating capacity maxes out at eight. Like the Suburban, the Armada offers optional second-row captain’s chairs, dropping capacity to seven.
HIGH-TECH CRUISING: 2020 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN
The Suburban’s infotainment setup gives you the best user experience. Also, important features — like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration and a Wi-Fi hotspot — are standard on all models, keeping you connected at a fair price.
Chevy’s full-size SUV also comes standard with remote start technology, which comes in handy when you want to warm up (or cool down) the cabin from afar. Tri-zone automatic climate control is quick to cool down the cabin (and also comes at no extra cost).
Inside the Armada, you can enjoy dual-zone automatic climate control, though that’s one less cooling zone than the Suburban offers. On the other hand, standard infotainment features include four USB ports, so you can charge devices in the front two rows. However, the Armada doesn’t offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technology at all, leaving you with only Nissan’s dated infotainment system.
Efficiency: 2020 Chevrolet Suburban
Max Towing: 2020 Nissan Armada
With max tow ratings of 8,500 pounds, the Armada will definitely tow the biggest boat. However, it’s important to point out that the Suburban’s max tow rating — 8,300 pounds — isn’t exactly very far behind.
If your boat or camper happens to weigh more than what the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban can handle and less than than the 2020 Nissan Armada’s maximum, then you’re going to need the Armada. Otherwise, both of these full-size SUVs do an excellent job of towing your favorite toys.
While the 2020 Nissan Armada has a slight advantage in the towing department, the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban offers more of what most people want in a full-size SUV (and its own towing performance ain’t too shabby, either).
