Let’s say you’re a city dweller who likes to get away. Or maybe a first-time car buyer looking to save some money but still wanting to buy something with a lot of character. Either way, turn your attention to the 2020 Jeep Renegade. This subcompact sport utility vehicle has character in spades and fits into any narrow alleyway or streetside parking spot, but also knows how to handle itself in the great outdoors. We’ll dig into what’s new for 2020 and what makes the Renegade great all around.
What’s New This Year?
All Renegades come with a new telematics unit, a fancy word meaning integration of the cars systems for remote access. You can remotely start, unlock, or lock your Renegade with the Uconnect app on your smartphone beginning with a one year of free subscription service. There’s also been some movement of options, with packages like Safety and Security, LED Lighting, and Advanced Tech now available on lower trim levels, along with the bigger 19-inch wheels.
Best-in-Class Off-Roading
Lots of SUVs look off-road ready, but few of the smaller ones actually are. That’s not the case with the Renegade. Starting at $22,275, the 2020 Jeep Renegade is one of the most affordable ways to get into a trail-ready vehicle. All Renegades, even the base model, can take on the less-traveled trails. But if you really want to hit the trails, the Renegade Trailhawk is the best trim level for it. Thanks to a turbo-four engine, skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a two-speed transfer case, higher ride height, and tow hooks, the Renegade Trailhawk is easily the best off-roader in the subcompact SUV class.
Infotainment
We’ve already mentioned the new telematics unit and smartphone app, so let’s take some time to talk about the Uconnect system by Chrysler. You’re going to want this in your Renegade. The Uconnect is one of the most intuitive systems on the market today, and its straightforward commands and menus are easy to navigate. The base Renegade comes on a 5-inch touchscreen, but it can be upgraded to a 7- or even 8.4-inch version. All Uconnect systems include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite-radio compatibility.
Quality, Spacious Cabin
The 2020 Jeep Renegade has seating for five with plenty of headroom front and back, due to its iconic Jeep shape. There’s also great front legroom. You can maximize your comfort with available options like eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, leather upholstery, and heated front seats. The cabin is well-constructed with quality materials throughout. The back seat even folds down flat to maximize storage space. Overall, the cabin’s original design means we keep finding different parts and surfaces that we like.
