Some of the more common areas that the truck saw some flaws were the transmission, problems with oil consumption, fuel system issues, and other electrical issues. With most of these issues being around in earlier generations. The more recent models have received an 80 in terms of reliability from JD Power!
All things considered, this truck doesn’t see too many issues when looking at how long it has been around. With some of the more modern models being almost flawless. But we’ll still take a deep dive at the issues that have been reported.
The first one we’ll look at is the transmission. Much like other Chevy made vehicles, the transmission sometimes has problems bucking or jerking. Here in Texas, we expect to see bucking at the rodeo, but certainly not on the road. Which is why this issue should be taken care of if you experience it. Some model years even saw some recalls for this issue, which we can check for you. If we sell one in the model year with recalls we have already made sure this service was done.
The excessive oil consumption can be caused by faulty piston rings, valve guides, or some other problematic issues within the engine. When this was present it would cause oil to leak into some other areas of the engine. This issue plagued models in the early 2010s but has been better in more recent trucks.
The fuel system issues were linked to the oil leaks that we mentioned before. As oil snuck its way into other parts of the engine, it would make the system much less reliable, sometimes cutting back on the truck's horsepower, and damaging it in the process.
The last issue we’ll cover is with the electrical system. If you start seeing your dashboard gauges start to malfunction, or even see the dashboard completely turn off, the most likely culprit is a wiring issue. Being a somewhat more recent problem, being less than a decade old, this one will need to be addressed sooner, rather than later.
