The Jeep Renegade has seen a handful of problems ranging from faulty transmissions, engine issues, electrical problems, and in an extremely rare case, the clutch. While these issues are known many drivers have given the Renegade a 4 out of 5 for reliability making it one of the more reliable vehicles on the road today.
Taking a closer look at these issues will show what you can expect if you were to experience one of these problems. The transmission issue was more prevalent on older models, but being that this model is only a decade old, we thought we should cover it. If you were to experience this you’d find that the SUV would have hard shifts, as well as jerking, and even unresponsiveness for Renegades that are equipped with an automatic transmission.
The engine has a handful of problems. One of which is stalling, while the other one is excessive oil consumption. If your engine were to stall, it would be fairly apparent, as the safety risk is also quite high. The oil consumption may be a bit harder to notice, especially if you aren’t looking for it.
The electrical problems can be annoying, but fixed rather easily. This would sometimes show up as a spotty radio, or even malfunctioning navigation systems. However it may appear, a simple software update normally fixes it.
The clutch failure was only reported once, so it’s not common. But we feel we should include it as a potential problem. The driver reported that the clutch plate was completely disintegrated in the housing, making them unable to operate their Renegade.
