Which light-duty truck is right for you, the 2022 Ram 1500 or Ford F-150? These trucks have a lot in common, including multiple body style configurations, powerful engine options, and a strong overall performance. To help you decide, we’re here to help you figure out how they’re different.
Max Towing: 2022 Ford F-150
The F-150 gives you the ability to tow up to 14,000 pounds (depending on body style, powertrain, and equipment). Although the recently redesigned Ram 1500 can tow substantially more than it used to — maxing out at 12,750 pounds — it still can’t quite match the F-150.
On-Road Refinement: 2022 Ram 1500
Thanks to its unique coil-spring rear suspension, the Ram 1500 offers a smoother, more comfortable ride than other light-duty trucks. And, thanks to its powerful engine options, you can count on this truck to deliver a strong performance.
The 2022 Ford F-150 is also known for its muscular engine options. However, with its traditional leaf-spring suspension, it never feels as smooth and comfortable as the Ram. That said, though, the F-150 does have its high points, including sharp steering and a powerful braking performance.
Rich Interior Comfort: 2022 Ram 1500
When it comes to interior refinement, you can’t beat the Ram 1500. This truck has long been known for its high-quality cabin, with a solid fit and finish and substantial-feeling materials throughout. There are seven trim models available, each of which adds an extra layer of comfort and style. Available features include leather upholstery, heated seats, and power-adjustable front seats.
The 2022 Ford F-150, meanwhile, offers a similar lineup, with six trim levels and all of the aforementioned luxury options. However, its cabin is more of a plain Jane. While seating is roomy and controls are logically laid out, the F-150 never feels quite as stylish as the Ram 1500.
Max Fuel Economy: 2022 Ram 1500
Besides its best-in-class interior and smooth ride, the Ram 1500 also impresses with its fuel savings. When you select the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 engine, your Ram truck can earn up to 26 mpg combined (23 city/33 highway).
Ford’s most efficient F-150 engine is the hybrid 3.5-liter V6, which combines this 400-horsepower V6 with an electric motor to help you earn up to 25 mpg combined (25/25 mpg). That’s almost as efficient as the Ram, though not quite.
Your New Truck
While the 2022 Ford F-150 certainly has a lot going for it, we think you’ll enjoy your daily drives much more if you cruise home in the 2022 Ram 1500. Ram’s light-duty truck is a cut above the rest, with best-in-class ride comfort and upscale accommodations. If you want, you can even configure your Ram 1500 to earn max EPA ratings of up to 26 mpg combined!
