New Features
Compared to previous Ram trucks, these used models are stronger, roomier, and more capable. The new crew cabin is even bigger than before, so it doubles as a family hauler. These trucks also tow more. Depending on configuration and equipment, a used Ram from this generation can tow up to 12,750 pounds. A new mild hybrid system boosts engine power. Finally, these Ram trucks offer a long list of new tech features, including an optional infotainment system with a 12-inch touchscreen and multiple USB ports.
Second-Generation Used Ram 1500 Configurations and Trim Models
This generation offers two cabin options, the extended Quad Cab and the bigger Crew Cab. The former comes standard with a 6-foot-4-inch bed and the latter with a shorter, 5-foot-7-inch bed.
This full-sized pickup truck gives you a lot of options, with seven trim models: Tradesman, HFE, Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, and Limited. Each adds a little more in terms of luxury, technology, and performance.
Second-Generation Ram 1500 Powertrains
This generation offers two powertrains. The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that delivers a strong performance with 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. An optional 5.7-liter V8 engine, available for all but the HFE, boosts the Ram’s capabilities with 395 horses and 410 pound-feet of torque. Four-wheel drive was an option for every Ram (except the HFE), so you should be able to find plenty of used models with this traction-boosting performance equipment.

First-Generation Configurations and Trim Models
These used Ram trucks will look familiar to fans of the full-size pickup. They come in three body styles: regular, extended Quad Cab, and crew cab. With the regular cabin, these used trucks will have either a 6-foot-4-inch bed or an 8-foot bed. Quad Cab trucks feature the 6-foot-4-inch bed. The crew cabin combines the most passenger space with a 5-foot-7-inch bed.
First-generation Ram trucks come in three trim levels: the base ST, midrange SLT, and exclusive Laramie. The ST supplies everything you need for a modern ride, from air conditioning to antilock brakes. The SLT adds a little more pizzazz, with chrome exterior trim and cloth upholstery. Dress up your daily drive in the Laramie, which adds leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and more luxury features.
First-Generation Ram 1500 Powertrains
The base engine is a 3.7-liter V6 rated for 215 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. Four-wheel-drive versions of the ST and SLT give you a little extra oomph, courtesy of a 4.7-liter V8 that makes 310 horses and 330 pound-feet of torque. The Laramie is even more powerful, with a 5.7-liter V8 engine that supplies 390 horses and 407 pound-feet of torque.

Pre-2011 Used Ram 1500
Before there was the first-generation Ram 1500, there was the Dodge Ram 1500. For the 2011 model year, the Ram struck out on its own, shedding the Dodge brand and becoming a division unto itself. However, the 2011 Ram 1500 is essentially a continuation of the fourth-generation Dodge Ram 1500.
