Subcompact sport utility vehicles have definitely found their footing in a market that loves SUVs of any size. Consummate city drivers, subcompacts are most at home downtown, cruising the city, enjoying the nightlife, and parking in just about any spot with ease. The 2020 Chevy Trax is one of these, and a great vehicle all-around. We’ll give you the skinny on what makes this a great SUV and why it might make a world of sense for it to be your first car, or your first secondary car.
Price and Features
The 2020 Chevy Trax is a great starter car, beginning at $21,300. But that doesn’t mean crank windows and AM/FM radio are the only things on offer. Even at the starting price, you get 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, manual-folding side mirrors, rear view camera on the outside. And inside, you'll find 60/40-split folding rear seat, driver's seat power lumbar adjustment, 4G LTE connection, Wi-Fi hotspot, 7-inch touchscreen, and six-speaker sound system with two USB ports and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. After all, this isn’t your dad’s starter car. This is a new century and a brand-new decade.
If you’re looking for something more, there are two other trim levels: LT and Premier. LT offers everything that comes with the LS, but adds deluxe cloth upholstery, satellite radio, cruise control, remote start, household-style power outlet, and heated outside mirrors. Add the Sun and Sound package, Driver Confidence package, or Redline Edition for a little more.
Finally, there’s the Trax Premier, giving you standard synthetic leather upholstery, six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, seven-speaker Bose premium stereo, auto-dimming rearview mirror, sunroof, fog lights, rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.
Cabin Space
People who haven’t been in a subcompact sport utility vehicle might cringe at the thought of sitting in one. But cast that concern aside. The 2020 Chevy Trax is surprisingly roomy. Because of its height, the Trax offers plenty of headroom for taller folks. More amazingly, the Trax also has plenty of room for your legs up front and even in the back. We’re happy to say that adults will be pretty happy with the rear seats.
Swing around back and you’ll find storage space numbering 18.7 cubic feet of space behind the back seat of the 2020 Trax. That’s pretty generous for a vehicle this size. Even better, the second row folds down leaving an almost completely flat space for a maximum of 48.4 cubes. Or, if you prefer, just fold down one rear seat to leave the rest of the row available for passengers but allowing you to stow a long item in the back.
We think the Trax is a nice little ride, and well worth the price. Try one out today, and explore that cityscape.
